With barely a day before the Working Families Party convention begins, Gov. Cuomos chances of securing the influential third-party line appear to be slipping rapidly.
Upstart candidate Zephyr Teachout a Fordham University Law professor and former organizer for Howard Deans presidential campaign formally declared her candidacy Friday with a statement blasting Cuomo for favoring the rich and doing little to fix a broken political system.
I'm seeking the WFP nomination because New Yorkers deserve an economy and democracy that works for all of us, not just the wealthy and well-connected. The system is rigged for the rich and powerful, and as part of that broken system, Andrew Cuomo isn't going to fix it. People's voices aren't being heard," said Teachout in the statement.
