Report: Number Of Ground Zero Cancer Cases Skyrocketing

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — There has been a dramatic increase in the number of 9/11 rescuers and responders with cancer in the past year, according to a published report.

The New York Post says that Mount Sinai Hospital’s World Trade Center Health Program reported 1,140 cancer cases last year. Now the number is up to more than 2,500.

1. Lost a good friend to cancer. He helped as many as he could for days at Ground Zero.

-- directly across the Hudson river from the World Trade Center Towers -- the weekend BEFORE 9/11.

When I contacted my former landlord a month or two later, she said things has pretty much returned to normal -- "except for the smell."

So I can't help but wonder what my health would be like now if I'd still been there.

I was down there days after looking for friends and I will never forget that smell.
