Bratton calls NYPD stations ‘deplorable’

New York Police Department commissioner Bill Bratton said the condition of police stations in the city is “deplorable” and the result of “a century of neglect.”

But because of the city’s fiscal reality, “I don’t see anywhere near a short-term solution."

Bratton, who was testifying at a budget hearing in City Hall this morning, said Los Angeles, where he was commissioner for seven years, upgraded “every one of the police stations” and referred to them as “phenomenal.”

Councilman Jimmy Vacca of the Bronx, who asked about the issue, said the current condition of the station houses is “not the message I want to send” to the public.
