Related: About this forumProtesters pack Raleigh for ‘Moral March’
Thousands of protesters descended on downtown Raleigh on a frigid Saturday morning to voice criticism of policies enacted over the past year by the GOP-led legislature and Republican Gov. Pat McCrory.
Filling Fayetteville Street from the State Capitol Building and three city blocks south, demonstrators sang, clapped and carried signs for a variety of causes, including expanding Medicaid, increasing teacher pay and advocating for gay rights.
Organized by the state chapter of the NAACP, the event was dubbed a Moral March, in the same spirit of the series of Moral Monday protests held by the group at the Legislative Building last year.
But while those Moral Monday legislative protests resulted in several hundred citizens subjecting themselves to arrest, Saturdays march saw no such civil disobedience.
