Exxon-Mobil and Kochs among largest donors to Corbett's campaigns through Christie's Repub Gov Assn.

When you looked at Corbett's campaign finance reports, you simply saw millions of dollars transferred from the Republican Governor's Association. But where did they get their money? There had been previous revelations about an illegal donation from the owner of Sands casino that was funneled to Corbett through the RGA and some money from the usual frackers that went through the RGA.

Now, it turns out that one of the RGA's largest donors was Exxon-Mobil. It is becoming a big issue because Christie was running the RGA, and then gave Exxon-Mobil a sweetheart deal to let them pay a fraction of what was felt to have been owed to NJ, to resolve past environmental crimes.

"A long-fought legal battle to recover $8.9 billion in damages from Exxon Mobil Corporation for the contamination and loss of use of more than 1,500 acres of wetlands, marshes, meadows and waters in northern New Jersey has been quietly settled by the state for around $250 million.

The lawsuits, filed by the State Department of Environmental Protection in 2004, had been litigated by the administrations of four New Jersey governors, finally advancing last year to trial. By then, Exxon’s liability was no longer in dispute; the only issue was how much it would pay in damages."

The RGA's largest donor as of 2014 of course was Koch Industries. Surprisingly, the Blue Cross-Blue Shield Association also showed up on the list. That is the lobbying arm of the various Blue Cross and Blue Shield entities. Remember that the next time you get angry at a big increase in premiums - where is the money going?
