Landowners destroy PennEast pipeline offers at Lower Nazareth protest

snip> Landowners in the path of PennEast's proposed natural gas pipeline ripped up their easement offers Wednesday in a Valentine's Day-themed protest in Lower Nazareth Township, the first of four similar protests planned this week in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

snip> For many of the 565 landowners in its path, the possibility of the pipeline crossing their land is heartbreaking. Donna and Bill Jackson were among those who shared their stories Wednesday. PennEast is offering the couple $20,000 to cross the 3.4-acre property in Upper Nazareth Township where they have lived for 34 years. The Jacksons had hoped to set aside two of those acres to build a home for their son, but that won't be possible if the pipeline is running through.

"They destroyed our plans," Donna Jackson said.

I feel very bad for those homeowners. It's too bad everyone didn't stick together. The article says that about 50 homeowners have taken the offers.
