Gov. Tom Wolf signed into law Friday a bill that would bar insurers from allowing patients to be charged more for pill-based cancer treatments than traditional chemotherapy.
The bill now goes to Gov. Tom Wolf for enactment.
At issue is an effort to achieve price parity for cancer patients, whether they receive the expensive oral treatments, now typically covered as prescription drugs for which patients can be charged 20 percent or more out-of-pocket, or chemo treatments that are typically covered as medical services.
Since some oral medications - also praised for drastically reducing side effects like hair loss and nausea - cost as much as $10,000 a month, even a 20 percent cost-share costs a patient $2,000 per month.

(9,267 posts)He's done so many things to start reversing the damage that Corbett inflicted on the state. Now if only folks would give him a more cooperative legislature. Unfortunately our state reps tend to get entrenched by personal appearances and favors ("he helped Grandpa get his veterans benefits" and seem to have lifetime appointments despite going back to Harrisburg and voting in lockstep with the Repugs.
Tom Wolf would be a fabulous running mate for HRC but she better not even think about taking him away from us!

(12,321 posts)Wolf inherited Corbett's huge mess and has been doing a great job with a contrary (Republican) legislature.
What part of PA are you originally from?
