Democrat Ahmad Hassan has ended his campaign for Harris County judge, saying incumbent Republican Ed Emmett should be given another four-year term to finish projects vital to the community.
Hassan, owner of the Katy-based Alexandria Realty and Mortgage, said he decided to withdraw after a recent meeting with Emmett, the county's top administrator since 2007.

Not a big surprise, considering...
Hassan unsuccessfully challenged U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee as a Republican in 2006; unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination for county judge in 2008 and 2010; and unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination for Precinct 3 county commissioner in 2012.
Honestly, about as much of a Democrat as Junior Samples doppelganger and ag commissioner candidate Jim Hogan.
Like everywhere else in Texas, Houston not only needs more Democrats, we need better Democrats.

(145,231 posts)Dallas is still way ahead of Harris County in terms of being blue but Harris County is moving in the right direction. I am hoping that Woodfill's stupidity on the HERO ballot initiative will help make Harris County solidly blue this cycle.

(8,322 posts)Not to mention some who are willing to brave the consultants' lament that running against certain Republicans --like Emmett -- is a waste of time and money.

(145,231 posts)I am still somewhat surprised that Wendy gave up a winnable senate seat to take on Greg Abbott when Abbott was sitting on $20 million cash on hand. We have a decent statewide slate (other than Ag. commissioner) and Leticia and Sam Houston may be able to pull on an upset even if Wendy loses.
I understand that the party has a full slate in Harris county for the most part and we are fielding more quality candidates in Fort Bend County than I could imagine.
It will be interesting to see if Harris county goes blue on the down ballot races. Dallas is solidly blue and I keep expecting Harris County to catch up to Dallas at some point.

(4,879 posts)but we have some real suck ass Dems in office. A "D" beside the name does not make them worthy of a democratic vote.
There are a few that I will never mark on my ballot.
A couple of judgeships in fact were better off under the "R" label.
To name just one--Lynn Cherry is beyond a joke. She is an embarrassment to the Democratic Party. As big an idiot as they come. Far more suitable to the Tea Party.
I look forward to the day when I can be proud to cast my "Democratic" vote.
A challenger to Jeb Hensarling would be nice , also.

(7,318 posts)affiliations at the drop of a hat. No loss there. What did Emmett propose to him though? Leaves one thinking he might have been bought off or blackmailed in order to drop out.

(8,322 posts)He was really such a weak candidate that Emmett was going to crush him anyway.

(3,363 posts)Some people believe if you run people will flock to support you. That is pretty much bullshit unless you have a chance, you have money, and you have a plan. This dude didnt have any. No loss here. No on asked him to run. No one cares he quit either.
We have a number of well qualified Democrats in the area, but I wouldnt suggest they run against Emmett. He has millions. He is respected. He is doing a fairly good job. He is not a teabagger.
There is no reason to field someone. Wait till it becomes an open seat. We have other races we can concentrate on.
Anyone smart would have realized this. Hassan didn't. QED

(145,231 posts)It was Emmett who lead the fight to replace that tea party idiot Jared Woodfill with a more moderate Paul Simpson. Paul is conservative but he is not a nut job.
