Gov. Perry withdraws 'unauthorized' Twitter post

A message on Gov. Rick Perry’s official Twitter feed was removed Sunday, with an announcement that the post was unauthorized.

Shortly after the message referring to Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg’s drunken-driving arrest last year was posted, it was withdrawn.

“A tweet just went out from my account that was unauthorized. I do not condone the tweet and I have taken it down,” the later announcement said.

-snip-

The original message included an image of Lehmberg and drew a connection between her and Perry’s recent indictment on charges that he had threatened her politically.

1. Yes, Perry is an idiot but Rosemary Lehmberg is a disgrace

After her deplorable conduct she didn't even show enough integrity to resign. I was both shocked and appalled by her outrageous behavior directed toward her own officers.

The very idea he and his friends transferred money which was supposed to be for cancer research to campaign funds.

I am pointing out, as has the Austin media and the Judge who oversaw her case, that Rosemary Lehmberg is a major disgrace to her office, the people of Travis County, and to her profession. Also, if she dares run for reelection she will be badly embarrassed by whichever Democrat takes her out in the primary. After that, she won't be able to get elected as the chair person for her AA group let alone any public office. She's done!

11. Why did he not request the other two DA's in Texas to resign after they were charged with DUI?

In her case he could have appointed another DA if she resigned and though her conduct was not very good after her arrest but in the case of a republican replacing her if she resigned, it was to Perry's advantage to protect his friends if she would be replaced by a republican. Perry should have been consistent with requesting the DA's to resign, either ask all of them on none of them. As many times as Perry also "operated" under the influence, guess he has his own set of problems.

She is expected to retire and I believe that I read that she will be 64.

6. No one condones the conduct of Lehmberg when she was intoxicated.

However, if she had resigned then Perry would have appointed a Republican to replace her as DA. More than likely the new DA would also have the advantage of being the incumbent in the November election. It was the last remaining elected official in the state held by a Democrat that had any leverage over the corruption of the GOP.

San Francisco does. Democrats outnumbers Republicans over 8 to 1. Also, I don't think procedurally that the Governor would appoint a county official (unless a judge). Although, I am not from Texas and can't say for sure.

9. Yes, the governor was the person who would have appointed the DA.

That was the specific reason why she did not resign. There were over 400 different fraud investigations occurring within the Travis County Public Integrity Unit (PIU) and many of those cases were closed when the governor veto funds for the PIU. The PIU not only investigates public officials but it also investigates a wide issues such as motor fuel tax scams (do pumps actually deliver a gallon when you purchase a gallon, whether retailers are selling subsidized diesel for farmers to general consumers), insurance and other financial fraud issues, plus they assist the smaller counties that don't have the resources in their prosecutions.

To be blunt, the Travis County PIU has an extreme amount of influence throughout the entire state which is why Perry would love to have one of his cronies in that office. I hope that information will provide some additional insight to why it was vital for Lehmberg to remain in the DA position.

BTW, Travis county voted 60% for President Obama rather than at nearly 90% as you are suggesting so the DA position could easily remain in GOP hands if one was appointed. Since you may not have read many of my posts before, I'll kindly inform you that I was a state employee that lived in Austin from 1987 through 2000.
