Republicans dismiss equal pay and abortions for rape as minor issues; Dems pounce

Democrats and support groups are slamming comments made independently by Republicans this weekend that they believe show the GOP has turned a deaf ear towards serious women’s issues.

Republicans have no female candidates for statewide office on the ballot, and Democrats have been waiting for any potential gaffes from the nearly all-white male line-up.

In separate appearances, a Republican political consultant called the low number of rape and incest victims a “minor issue” in the abortion debate, and GOP lieutenant governor candidate Dan Patrick dismissed the idea that government should be involved in pay disparity issues for women.

Both Democratic governor nominee Wendy Davis and lieutenant governor nominee Leticia Van de Putte sent out fundraising pleas on Monday, citing the GOP male statements.

Hope it's effective.

Hey TT, did you know I became an elected official back in June? I'm on a local college board in a large city in Texas, fighting for education.

Congratulations on your election victory and I'm certain that you will make a difference in the lives of the young adults (and maybe some older ones also).

I was reading the Williamson County Sun last night and learned that the new president at Southwestern there is also teaching an evening class of calculus I in the senior university. I'll be eligible to take classes there next year (minimum age of 50) so it would be really nice if maybe I could have him as a professor. I met him last year at Homecoming and I hear that is a great instructor. I think that I'm in great shape regarding calculus I, but could benefit by taking calculus II again--oddly enough calculus III was relatively easy for me as an undergrad. I'm also hoping to branch out into the liberal arts classes more than I did as an undergrad and might even get back into the band although it will be a learning experience since I'm in dentures now.

found Calc. 3 to be easier than Calc. 2. Maybe my understanding grew over time. Good luck and I hope you get the professor you're looking for. Currently, I'm the youngest member on the board, and one of the youngest elected to the position (I'm 34). I come with an educational background, being a classroom teacher at a local middle school for almost a decade. As you know, education has not been the top priority in Texas, and I'm hoping to have a larger impact on fixing that, rather than hoping things change while I'm in the classroom.

Keep in touch, I know I rarely ever post here, but I do lurk about and have always appreciated when you post in the Texas forum.

Cheers
