Senate Education Committee Agenda for November 17 HearingVouchers and More: Yesterdays Hotline noted in passing that Texas Lt.-Gov.-elect Dan Patrick will use his current perch as chair of the Senate Education Committee to conduct a hearing on private-school vouchers (in various guises and without using the word voucher) on November 17 at the state capitol. The agenda for that hearing also will address expansion of charter schools in Texas and a couple of other versions of school choice, including a parent trigger law and a public-school choice statute for students at a campus labeled low-performing.
The full agenda for this hearing is reprinted below. Video of the hearing will be livestreamed on the state legislatures Web site at www.capitol.state.tx.us. Youll find the hearing broadcast under Legislative Activity/Video Broadcasts/Senate.

(14,449 posts)The election was 4 days ago. Those in charge are so until January. Why do the winners think they can start doing anything now. I am pissed off at Senator Reid too because he acts like he doesn't have the Senate today which is not true. He should be making as many judges as possible and heck maybe send as much legislation as possible. Even the President is acting like McConnell is majority already. That Friday meeting did not need to happen until January. This is way to strange.

(4,695 posts)There are few types of lawmakers less helpful to the legislative process than bullies and ideologues. Unfortunately, Dan Patrick too often seemed to be both in his first session as the chair of the Senate Education Committee. The Houston radio host fell into a habit of lecturing his fellow legislators, interrupting witnesses, and accusing those who disagreed with him of simply not understanding his bills. In short, he ran his committee like he runs his talk show, where the only opinion that really matters is his own.

Hopefully, many will be able to listen to him doing his business instead of the business of Texans.
The link to the proceedings in Austin are in the OP, starting with this Monday's Education Committee. Seeing as how he is Lt. Governor elect, I think he will ignore and stop (stomp) the committee if he disagrees.
