Governor Greg Abbott’s awkward pandering problem

http://thescoopblog.dallasnews.com/2015/11/governor-greg-abbotts-awkward-pandering-problem.html/

... I wondered, and not for the first time, what ails this man?

What strange advent of a waxing gibbous moon turns him from a solid-if-bland, pro-business, common-sense moderate Republican into a frothing foil-hatted crank?

Aw, we all know the answer: It’s panic. It’s the groveling fear of the far-right fringe, the thundering, runaway doomsday conspiracy lobby that reduces so many mainstream get-’er-done GOP’ers to jibbering lunatics. The poor man is terrified.

He’s not alone. The formerly staid Republican ranks are riddled now with apocalyptic shamans who think of little else but firearms, abortion, gay people, and immigrants. At heart, Abbott is no fool. He knows they wield powerful mojo.

Frankly, I think this gives him WAY too much credit

The Dallas Morning News is making excuses for their endorsement of the blithering idiot.
