Lane Lewis to resign as Harris County Democratic party chair in February

Harris County Democratic Party Chair Lane Lewis plans to resign in February, he said in an email Monday, leaving the local party in flux after sweeping every countywide position on November's ballot.

Lewis, elected in 2011, ran unopposed for party chair in March and helped turn a purple Harris County blue on Election Day.

However, some Democrats have criticized the party's lackluster fundraising and worried about their ability to maintain this year's electoral edge.

Lewis thanked Democrats for the opportunity to serve and pointed to the party's gains under his leadership.
