CORPUS CHRISTI Starting March 5, you no longer have to be a doctor or an officer to get paid to save lives.
Through a new Crime Stoppers initiative, residents can become eligible to earn $250 by reporting underage drinking.
Officer Kirk Stowers came up with the idea after working a DWI crash involving two teenagers returning home from a 2011 graduation party about 7 a.m., he said. The married couple had their 8-month old child in the back seat.
The driver, Michael Aguirre, 19, was convicted of intoxication manslaughter in connection with that wreck, which killed David Garner Jr., 45.

The online poll at KIII-TV showed that 69% would turn in the underage drinkers, 23% wouldn't do it, and 8% not certain.
I have mixed reactions about this program and the profit motive. I realize the need to keep the public safe. However, I wonder if this might lead to gang fights, legal problems for someone that files a false report or diversion of police resources checking on people allowed to drink.

One thing though, why did Texas raise the speed limit to 85 on certain roads?
speed kills.
55 is safe. No matter if there is no one else is on the road.
ask Jorg Haider about drinking, driving, speeding. (though in his case, some might say the world averted a major international crisis had he not been so WRECK-less...

Has anyone ever seen a confiscation report?

NEVER legal to drink and drive, so I wouldn't worry about diversion - I'd love to see the police in our area far more active on teen drinking. We've lost three students at our high school this year to underage drinking and driving.
For a change, instead of mouthing about it, someone is actually willing to put some resources into it.
Good.
