California political cartoon depicting West: Crossing the line or valid point?

At the risk of igniting the California/Texas debate thing - here goes

AAS 4/26/13

Sacramento Bee political cartoonist Jack Ohman caused a stir this week with a cartoon that some are calling insensitive.

The cartoon features Gov. Rick Perry saying that “Business is booming in Texas!” followed by a large explosion. Behind Perry are signs saying “Low Tax!” and “Low Regs!”

Ohman said he stood behind the cartoon, which he said depicted “Gov. Rick Perry’s marketing of Texas’ loose regulations, juxtaposed with the explosion of the fertilizer plant in West, Texas.”

The truth hurts. Perry and his no/low regulation environment certainly set the stage for this. However, the people of West probably did not have a clue how dangerous that plant was.

It crosses the line of good taste. It should. The ghoulishness of the cartoon is exceeded only by the reality of those who killed a dozen emergency responders with their love of sloth and money over industrial safety.

entice California businesses to move to Texas using that EXACT argument -- Californian Ohman has a good memory:

"Perry and others are courting California companies ready to bolt with promises of low taxes, loose regulations and a hard stance on organized labor."

The people of West are not being blamed by anyone. The finger is pointed squarely at Rick Perry and his ilk.

... and thus an insensitive cartoon. Life sucks, then you die. That's the truth. No more "Everything is beautiful, in it's own way"-BS. Deregulation, unenforced regulations, an impotent OSHA and politics is what the picture depicts.
