Unclean stations, broken escalators: 'We can do better,' new Sound Transit CEO says

It's indisputable that mass transit service in the central Puget Sound region is much more robust than it was 10 years ago.

"That's pretty awesome," Sound Transit CEO Julie Timm said in an interview Tuesday. "That doesn't mean it's perfect. Our ops do need some work."

Stations are unclean, and there have been lapses in security levels, said Timm, who is six months into leading the agency, which is in the midst of the nation's largest mass transit system expansion.

For years Sound Transit has been more of a construction company and less on customer service, she said, and it shows with elevators and escalators often inoperable. King County Metro is in charge of the stations.

I agree. I'm not a daily rider but I've noticed the mess at several stations.
