Hainan Airlines resumes nonstop flights from Seattle to Beijing

Hainan Airlines is bringing back its nonstop flight from Beijing to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, after a nearly four-year pause during the pandemic.

The airline will resume service April 2, running one daily flight on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays year-round. Before the Covid hiatus, Hainan's route — considered the shortest flight between mainland China and the continental U.S. — brought 200,000 visitors to Seattle each year.

"Hainan Airlines is optimistic about adding frequencies in the future subject to the bilateral agreement on capacity increasing between two governments," the airline said in a news release.

The U.S. Transportation Department recently announced that Chinese passenger airlines can increase their weekly U.S. flights to 50, effective Sunday. That's about one-third of the pre-pandemic volume.
