Everything you ever wanted to know about the Singing Protestors

...or close to, if you go through and follow the comments.

Good questions asked and answered:

Includes a link where you can go to donate to help with paying off legal bills, which is also:

(Also, if anyone can help with the question I posted near the very end of the comments -- what are the Top Hits, the current big favorite tunes at the front lines? -- I'm really curious to know.)

Here's a link to the current songbook. Without a "leader," someone either shouts out a song number or just starts singing a song, and everyone else jumps in. Last song of the sing along is always #8, Solidarity Forever.

Took the opportunity to make another small donation. (My 4th, I think.)

I feel a little let down that the song list is soooo old-timey, but I guess that's best
for the conditions -- no instruments, no percussion (I assume) and no electronic
amplification.

That would make it hard to do the kind of tunes I was thinking of. No Rage
Against the Machine, but a little less preachin'-to-the-choir:

or.... this one with (as it turns out) some extremely prophetic lyrics:

Edit to add:

If you ever get a permit for a guitar, don't forget:

4. Hey,

we DID join Tom Morello on stage for "World Wide Rebal Song."

One reason for the "old time" songs is that most people are familiar with the melodies. People dropping in can pick up a songbook and join in, even if it's their first sing along.

We used to be able to get instruments in, but that's strictly forbidden now. Friday sing alongs are outside, so the instruments join in then. It makes it a lot more festive!

Thank you SO much for the donations. I can't tell you how much it means. Twenty-three (I think) arrests today, including the 70 year old veteran, who they let fall on the stairs with his hands handcuffed behind his back. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance, and later released. One person taken to jail for coming back into the rotunda after being cited. Lots of people have done that, but some of the cops have a short fuse. So, once again, the afternoon was spent sitting in the jail lobby. Sigh...
