I've been looking at the log on my wifi router

It will show month by month the daily bandwidth use since I first initiated it and who has been logging on.

I can see in the bandwidth when the grandkids are here with their handheld devices

Some of those things never seem to stop sucking bandwidth off the wifi even when they are apparently and supposedly not doing anything, I'm talking about youtube video levels of bandwidth.

I know that on my Google Nexus 7, Android tablet the apps really don't stop because you minimize them. They keep on synchronizing data and so on. All of which you can probably stop through the settings of the app but who does that? Also, I have mine set for auto-update. So the apps will download updates as soon as one is available. That's usually more bandwidth than surfing.

I'd bet your grandkids' devices are set up similar to my tablet. Unless they're off (and I'm not even sure that works for certain) I think they're always connected somehow.
