www.google.com/ncr

(ncr = no country redirect)

I've known it misguess my country/language in the past. Usually fixes itself. Sometimes it can be a symptom of a malware infection, though.

All google ads on all websites that serve them up are in german. That tells me we're still getting a redirect.

If you have a dynamic IP address, you could try resetting your router and see if that helps, but I think from past experience they resolve this sort of glitch before long without your needing to do anything. Or you could take the opportunity to learn German.

Google could default to the language of the operating system, since they collect that info with every page request. But since they also target ads based on location, I assume it's their preferred way of setting a default language. After all, give them enough IP traffic and they'll tell you where you left your car keys. It's hard to say how that address and setup got associated with a .de IP range. I know it's a constant irritation for multilingual households and institutions.

You might also clear all google/youtube cookies from your browsers, as it resets their config to the default page. Their current solution for all google problems seems to be to encourage everyone to use google+. It allows more thorough tracking.
