I'm rapidly running out of reasons not to abandon Windows.

Last edited Wed Nov 21, 2012, 07:09 PM - Edit history (2)

I just put the latest version of Kubuntu on my system, and it's working great!

And now, Netflix works, see here! http://www.iheartubuntu.com/2012/11/ppa-for-netflix-desktop-app.html

Wine also runs lots of my games...

And Steam's getting a Linux native client - right now in beta, but we're going to see native Valve games! With better performance than their Windows versions!

And I might add that Kubuntu is much snappier than Windows 7 on my system.

I kept my Windows machine for a year, sitting, collecting dust, "just in case" there was something on it that I might need after I switched to Linux.
I am not a gamer, so that aspect of the change did not bother me.
After a year, I could find no reason to keep Windows around at all.

i love the way Linux "cleans itself" so there are no zillion copies of the same file hogging resources.
And Mr. Dixie, in an effort to tempt to change to Linux ( I can be a bit stubborn at times) built me a machine that has
500 GB of memory.
so nice to be free of Gates World.

Regrettably, cannot stream Netflix even on the new app, my ISP is unpredictable.

Steam to get released for linux and I can probably leave Windows entirely.

I signed up for the beta, of course. Valve intends their entire library to be there eventually. How they're managing to do it, I don't know but the blog claims the following:

Submitted by keynight on Tue, 11/06/2012 - 17:37

NVIDIA today announced the latest NVIDIA® GeForce® drivers -- R310 -- double the performance(1) and dramatically reduce game loading times for those gaming on the Linux operating system. The result of almost a year of development by NVIDIA, Valve and other game developers, the new GeForce R310 drivers are designed to give GeForce customers the best possible Linux-based PC gaming experience -- and showcase the enormous potential of the world's biggest open-source operating system...

Kubuntu has become truly good with the 12.10 version. I initially installed it because I wanted to try out the Razor-Qt DE, which I liked a lot, actually, after configuring it. But I soon found myself settling comfortably into Kubuntu's KDE desktop instead. Very nice job they did with this release.

The desktop theme, color scheme and window theme is called Ghost, after Ghost in the Shell. I decided I wanted a cyberpunkish look.
