Modern campaigning: The Hillary Quilt Project

West Branch, Iowa (CNN)The group assembles every Tuesday, toting fabric, needles, the occasional rhubarb pie and their "Iowans Ready for Hillary" pins.

For two hours, they talk 2016 while stitching a very political quilt.

"This is a supporter quilt. It's kind of a way to say to Hillary, 'We've got your back,'" Iowan Clara Oleson said.

There's a long history of quilting in American politics: Women gathered to stitch during the Civil War, supporters of the late 19th century temperance movement created quilts as fundraisers, and more recently, the AIDS Memorial Quilt has been growing since 1987 with more than 48,000 individual memorial panels.

& has been for years. It's not as easy as it looks.

The AIDS Memorial Quilt has been growing since 1987 with more than 48,000 individual memorial panels. How awesome is that!!!

I use to sew a lot. Following patterns made my eyes cross, so I just figured it out on my own. I made some quilted pillows, shams, duvets, dust ruffles and a few dresses for my young nieces. HA! That was a long time ago.

I like what Hillary is doing, she is touching the people. Yes, she is concerned for our economic health, yet she is a warrior for our social issues as well.

made my own maternity clothes & some regular clothes as well. Then I got into cross stitching. That was a long time ago for me too. Now I play around on DU, watch tv & read some (use to read a lot but not so much anymore)

I went into Boston to see Hillary at her book signing. Got to say hello, shake her hand & get myself a signed copy of "Hard Choices"

I've liked her & her political views since forever! She is a realist imho. She doesn't try to sell fairy tales imho.

I think she is a fantastic role model for women & girls. And believe me we need more women like her, smart, fearless, kind, giving, etc. Women have not been equally/fairly represented in politics. Don't we make up half the population here in the USA? We deserve fair representation! (Rant Off)

Have a good nightsheshe2, I think I'll go veg out in front of the tv for a while. (hug)

I belong to a couple of groups, one we just find a different place to dine out once a week and also a senior group. It is really good to be with others. Enjoy and thanks for sharing.

of them and never got past the making of blocks,I think I always picked patterns that were too difficult for a beginner, but those are the patterns I love. Anyway, here's a pic of the quilt they're making:
