As students across the country voice support for Sanders, Hillary Clinton backers say they contend with anger and accusations: Youre evilhttp://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/may/08/harvard-students-hillary-clinton-bernie-sanders-2016-election?CMP=share_btn_tw
Youre less likely to encounter Hillary Clinton memorabilia. In a setting where students are meant to be rebelling against the status quo, to be wearing berets and hanging Che Guevara posters on their walls, supporting Clinton just isnt cool.
Unhappy with the Obama economy, voters are buying what Trump's selling

It turns out this is even true at Harvard University hardly known for revolutionary politics.
In April, Sam Koppelman, a 20-year-old government student at Harvard, wrote a letter to the New York Times lamenting that his support for Clinton meant that on campus he might as well be Pat Buchanan.
At Harvard, admitting that #ImWithHer is nearly tantamount to boasting Make America Great Again, Koppelman wrote.

(5,060 posts)Politicians don't care about the 18- 25 year olds because they don't vote. They are always the least reliable age block when it comes to voting in November. It's has been one of the big miscalculations of the Sanders campaign. For all of his giant rallies, mostly on college campuses, he is still losing both the popular vote and delegates.
Some day soon, we will hear about the pitiful return on investment of the Sanders campaign. While Bernie has outspent Sec. Clinton 2:1 and even 3:1 he has nothing much to show for it.

(16,104 posts)And this attitude on college campuses that if youre an advocate for social justice issues, you need to be a Bernie supporter is really dismissive of those people across the country who are voting for Hillary.
Its a we know better attitude that is so emblematic of the very things Bernie Sanders is campaigning against.

(16,672 posts)For me it's more that I don't agree with the method on getting things done. I believe Hillary will get more done in today's political climate with Congress. I believe she is more realistic with foreign policy which is extremely complicated. Whether we like it or not the republicans have pulled the country so far to the right it's not going to go far left in one election cycle - especially if the real work isn't being done at the local level.
Anyone who understands how government works will know the next president isn't going to wave a magic wand and get what they want. We won't get things fixed for a couple decades - it sucks but it's reality.
These Bernie kids who think bullying gets things done have so much to learn. I hope they stay engaged and work on local issues but I doubt it since there's little attention with that hard work.

(10,847 posts)I can tell you that most professors support Clinton over Sanders. The young students are, of course, more extreme in their views. The seasoned, pragmatists support the best candidate for the country and world. That candidate is Hillary.

(41 posts)Maybe UF is just different, but I doubt it. I wore Hillary gear, no heckles. I spoke with Bernie supporters on campus, we had intelligent, civil conversations about the future of the country. I met many young Hillary supporters, and in immigration class we objectively broke down policy proposals by both Bernie and Hillary without any protest or discourse. The professor asked "What do you notice about Bernies proposals?" And one young student blurted out "They aren't realistic." It wasn't the answer she was looking for. Its just a young Hillary supporter being vocal in class. Some Bernie fans did similiar when talking about her plans, but it was far from fanatical or violent.
You know who the Bernie fanatics I know of are?
Older Bernie fans who lost faith in the democratic party. Mostly my dads friends he met at yoga and such. They are extreme, fanatical, rude, and ridiculously misinformed. I had to block 4 of my fathers friends because they were heckling me for supporting Hillary and it threatened our friendship.
I'm 30 now, so I'm a little above the demographic being spoken of, but I am a late college applicant finishing my bachelors in economics, so most my friends are under 24. They are not fitting of this stereotype. Its incorrect and a little offensive. Come fall, college students will be with her. Anything contrary is a media lie.

(718 posts)where people are in the closet with their Clinton support, sometimes to the point of actively pretending to support Sanders, or at the very least are feeling a lot of pressure. I'm thinking that it's just more of a general trend than a universal, I bet your college is sort of an exception to norm.

@AlGiordano They've significantly hurt his campaign. Know plenty of people who liked Bernie early who were totally turned off by them.

(1,771 posts)When he first took office he had to jump on a runaway train that had no brakes and was heading toward 'Dead Man's Corner'. Obama was able to stop the train and even back it up a bit.
I get the sense that some of these Sandman supporters are more concerned with their financial future and don't really give a fuck about the poor and homeless in this country.
