Clinton announces VT leadership team
Hillary Clintons presidential campaign has announced its Vermont state team, featuring a whos-who of local Democrats.
The list includes Clinton supporters such as U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy, former Gov. Howard Dean and Burton Snowboards co-owner Donna Carpenter, as well as Gov. Peter Shumlin and former Gov. Madeleine Kunin, who campaigned for Clinton earlier this year.
The 16 women and nine men on the Hillary for Vermont Leadership Council will form the in-state leadership for the campaign, according to a news release. Responsibilities include helping to organize events and recruit volunteers.
Notably missing from the list is U.S. Rep. Peter Welch, D-Vt., who has stopped short of publicly endorsing a presidential candidate.
Many state Democrats have endorsed Clinton over hometown candidate Bernie Sanders, Vermonts independent U.S. senator who is challenging Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination.
Vermonts primary is scheduled for Town Meeting Day March 1.
