http://www.eluniversal.com/vida/130731/ecologistas-rechazan-construccion-de-hotel-en-mochimaDiverse ecology sectors rejected the Government's proposal to build a luxury hotel in Mochima National Park without an environmental study.
"The construction of a hotel of such proportions, and without complying with the law, requires an environmental study beforehand to evaluate the impact, which they have not done", assured Drai Cabellos from Conbive.
The new complex- which forms part of 97 approved by Nicolas Maduro for the region-would have 150 rooms, pools for adults and children, tennis courts, volleyball and baloncesto, gymnastics, and a golf course.
But presidencial decree 276, in article 12, prohibits "cualquier tipo de commerical establishment except the sale of souvenirs, local artesans and concessions" within the national parks. That includes construction of residential areas, and private and public tourist clubs.

Multiple Venezuelan environmental societies have refused the government plans to build a luxury hotel in La Borracha Island, located in Mochima national park, in default of an environmental survey.
On a notice posted on the website of the Venezuelan Network of Environmental Organizations (www.red-ara-venezuela.blogspot.com), environmentalists point to legal reasons and technical issues that should be born in mind.
"The building of such a sizeable hotel, besides failing to comply with the laws, requires an environmental survey in advance to assess its impact. This has not been the case," said Drai Cabello, of Conbive.
Last July 21, the Ministry of Tourism reported on the construction of a five-star hotel in one of the islands that form part of the archipelago of Borracha Island (north of Anzoátegui state, east Venezuela) in order to turn the site into a tourist destination, as quoted by state-run news agency AVN.

These guys have a lousy nose for business. What they need is to improve the airport, fix the hotel in lecherias, provide boats to take tourists on day trips and have park rangers and patrol boats. And clean up the mess on some of the beaches. I went diving at la piscina and the nearby beach was full of broken bottles and human crap.
