Chile Changes To Summer Time on Saturday, September 6

Chile Changes To Summer Time on Saturday, September 6
September 01 14:53 2014

Don’t forget to adjust your clocks: this Saturday, September 6, spring forward at 12 a.m.

SANTIAGO — Summer time is coming, at least on our clocks. This Saturday, September 6, it’s time to put your clocks forward. When the Pendulum rings 12 a.m. it will actually be 1 a.m. of the next day (New time GMT/UTC .03).

Meanwhile on Easter Island and Salas and Gómez Island at 10 p.m. on Saturday the clock must be set one hour forward to 11 p.m. of the same day (New time GMT/UTC -5).

For the fourth consecutive year, the Government has decided to implement a reduced winter schedule and extend the summer. One of the main reasons for extending the duration of summer time is for making better use of natural light, and in this way also reducing electricity consumption.

With the extension of DST, Chile joins more developed countries like the United States, Canada and the European Union, which have a length of summer time similar to the Chilean one.

(Hearing Daylight Savings Time explained as a way to conserve electricity makes more sense!)

I would have loved daylight time year round in Boston. Those winters are incredibly dark in December and early January. People who work during the day go to work in the dark and come home in the dark. I'd even love it here, since I'm a late sleeper and night owl.

Morning people are the ones who hate it.
