Related: About this forumDespite Riches, Venezuela Starts Food Rationing
http://online.wsj.com/articles/despite-riches-venezuela-starts-food-rationing-1414025667MARACAIBO, VenezuelaAmid worsening shortages, Venezuela recently reached a milestone of dubious distinction: It has joined the ranks of North Korea and Cuba in rationing food for its citizens.
On a recent, muggy morning, Maria Varge stood in line outside a Centro 99 grocery store, ready to scour the shelves for scarce items like cooking oil and milk. But before entering, Ms. Varge had to scan her fingerprint to ensure she wouldnt buy more than her share.
Despite its technological twist on the old allotment booklet, Venezuelas new program of rationing is infuriating consumers who say it creates tiresome waits, doesnt relieve shortages and overlooks the far-reaching economic overhauls the country needs to resolve the problem.
These machines make longer lines, said Ms. Varge, 50, as she was jostled by people in line, but you get inside, and they still dont have what you want.

(16,286 posts)1. WSJ is the only source, I will wait till credible source reports this...not an AP pick up either
Not being a dick to the person who started the thread, just taking every opportunity I can to point out there are credible media sources and non credible.
WSJ is in the middle of those two options...

(14,732 posts)3. This isn't exactly news. It's been reported for some
months now from various news organizations that Vz implemented an electronic rationing system due to continuing shortages of the most basic items. What you see now are just the chickens coming home to roost, as Maduro's 'economic' policies have Venezuela continuing to swirl the bowl.
