The Evidence That Completely Undermines The GOPs Opposition To Obamas New Cuba Policy
A host of prominent Republicans with strong political connections to Floridas Hispanic community including Sen. Marco Rubo (R-FL), former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, and Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) rushed to condemn President Barack Obamas decision to restore diplomatic relations with Cuba on Wednesday, citing the Castro regimes oppression and dictatorial form of government.
Mr. Obamas new Cuba policy is a victory for oppressive governments the world over and will have real, negative consequences for the American people, Rubio wrote in an op-ed published in the Wall Street Journal. Bush who announced his intention to explore a presidential bid in 2016 pointed to the countrys disastrous human rights record and Ros-Lehtinen argued that normalization of relations will embolden the Castro regime to continue its illicit activities, trample on fundamental freedoms, and disregard democratic principles.
But GOP hard liners havent always been so disdainful of trading with nations who dont live up to Americas democratic ideals.
In August, top aides to Rubio and Ros-Lehtinen took an all expenses paid trip to China this month courtesy of the Chinese government, the Tampa Bay Times reported. The trips by Rubios deputy chief of staff Sally Canfield and Ros-Lehtinen chief of staff Arthur Estopinan included meetings with Chinese government officials and could have exceeded $10,000 a person.

Living in the SW (60 miles from the border) I just know that the "Hispanic community" is not a monolithic group, e.g. the Cuban-American perspective on issues like immigration, is not shared by ... say ... the Mexican-American community.

(160,621 posts)4. Who can forget the big parade held in Miami by the Cuban "exiles" for the Vene. coup plotters?
They had the high-ranking, dirty, corrupt union leader, and the head of the Venezuelan commerce group, both of whom had participated in trying to overthrow Hugo Chavez, as the guests of the festival, bowing, nodding, blowing kisses at their "exile" and Venezuelan oligarchist fans in the crowd. Grotesque.

(160,621 posts)5. You may recall when this information was published regarding Cuban "exile" Jorge Mas Canosa:
February 19, 1994
CUBAN EXILE leader Jorge Mas Canosa Sr., a virulent opponent of trade with his communist homeland, will become a heavy investor in communist China. Miami's Church & Tower Inc., Mas' family engineering business, plans to invest nearly $200 million in hydroelectric power plant construction projects and the purchase of a majority stake in Chengdu Machinery. In both cases, Church & Tower's partner would be companies controlled by the municipal government of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province, Jorge Mas Canosa Jr. said Thursday.

Jorge Mas Canosa believed that when the US overthrew the Cuban Revolution, HE, Jorge Mas, would become the next President of Cuba.
(He also accompanied the Cuban "exile" invasion of Cuba, and stayed in his boat, a distance from the fighting, before returning to Miami.
He ruled over the Cuban "exile" community in Miami until he left due to his death.
