Ecuador Rejects Human Rights Watch Report, Describes It As 'Shamelessly' Biased
QUITO, Nov 13 (BERNAMA-NNN-PRENSA LATINA)--The governing Allianza PAIS rejected today a report made by the non-governmental organization Human Rights Watch (HRW) that condemns the alleged excessive use of police force against opposition demonstrators in Ecuador.
According to the political movement founded by president Rafael Correa in 2006, the document issued by the ONG last Tuesday gathers only the opinions of government detractors and manipulates the figures shamelessly, showing it total lack of objectivity.
It is not the first time that HWR issues critical reports against the progressive governments of the region, which partiality and political purposes are evident, Allianza PAIS affirmed in a statement, and reminded that the violent opposition demonstrations between June and August have left more than one hundred wounded policemen.
It also complains that HRW report has failed to mention the undemocratic nature of demonstrations calling for Correa's resignation.
Allianza PAIS considers irresponsible that HRW considers a politicasl move the declaration of a state of the emergency made by the Government last August as a result of the increasing seismic activity of Cotopaxi volcano.
