Feds: Gun suspect wired money for Colorado marijuana warehouse

FILE - In this file photo provided by the U.S. Attorney's Office via The Denver Post, Hector Diaz, a Colombian national, is shown wearing a DEA baseball cap and holding up two rifles. Authorities said Diaz was arrested in November 2013 in U.S. raids of more than a dozen sites connected to Colorado's marijuana industry. Diaz asked a judge last week to dismiss the indictment against him because it is a violation of his Second Amendment right to bear arms, among other reasons. Diaz is charged with possession of a firearm while in the U.S. on a business or tourism visa.

DENVER — Prosecutors say a Colombian man arrested after raids on Colorado medical marijuana businesses wired $400,000 from Colombia to buy a pot warehouse.

Hector Diaz was charged after the November raids with possession of a firearm while in the country on a business or tourism visa. Newly filed court documents allege that he had the gun as part of his role in the marijuana industry. Prosecutors said he admitted wiring money from Colombia for the warehouse, and the house where he was arrested contained "numerous unsecured weapons."

His lawyer didn't immediately return a call.

The disclosure is the strongest link prosecutors have publicly made between Diaz and the marijuana industry. They still have not disclosed the reasons for the raids, which came in the weeks before Colorado allowed recreational marijuana shops to open.

It really is idiotic, and says something about the way they view them, as totemic instruments or cool toys or as accesories, I admit I have a few firearms for thier historic WOW factor, or just plain fun, but I view the vast majority as simple tools.
