UAW shocked by bombshell dropped by Sen. Bob Corker during VW plant union vote in Tennessee

U.S. Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee said on Wednesday he has been “assured” that if workers at the Volkswagen AG plant in his hometown of Chattanooga reject United Auto Worker representation, the company will reward the plant with a new product to build.

Corker’s bombshell, which runs counter to public statements by Volkswagen, was dropped on the first of a three-day secret ballot election of blue-collar workers at the Chattanooga plant whether to allow the UAW to represent them.

Corker has long been an opponent of the union which he says hurts economic and job growth in Tennessee, a charge that UAW officials say is untrue.

“I’ve had conversations today and based on those am assured that should the workers vote against the UAW, Volkswagen will announce in the coming weeks that it will manufacture its new mid-size SUV here in Chattanooga,” said Corker, without saying with whom he had the conversations.

Considering that VW is one of the few corporations that encourage union membership and the plant in the US is the only one that is non union i would say this is a outright lie to influence the vote, gas guzzling SUV's are something Americans want because we have little sense, it will be built there in their one US plant if they plan to build it at all, because building an entire plant for something so risky wouldn't make sense..

What a evil fucker. wants so badly for employees to be underpaid, and lots of "liberals" on this board wonder why we hate them and think they have no place in civilized society.

TN is being strangled by ALEC legislation and anti-union is what they are all about.

But most of TN citizens have been carefully taught the great and mighty uber rich, those blessed by God with wealth on earth, will one day trickle down upon their trailer homes and 10 year old SUVs.

If the UAW loses the election, they can now file an unfair labor practice charge against VW and have the election redone, which will effectively give them two bites at the apple.

These rat bastards are disgusting to lie to their constituents. They should have to go to jail for such blatant lies! Seriously, trying to put workers against one another, while trying to keep competition for that 1 job that 10 people are applying for is disgusting!

I'd hope it's more than obvious who these ReThuglicans are really working for! After having a govt job, the next best thing is having a Union job. And while they probably don't care all that much if one car manufacturing company has a union, they are afraid of word of mouth regarding having a union to collectively bargain for training, safety, schedules, pay, and benefits to reach the masses; AND then other employees at other companies may decide they want to Unionize. And then the Unions with their union money will use money to help even out the campaign $ for their opponents... God forbid constituents have a voice at the table and it's not only a rich "man's" game!

Plus, all the lies these assholes have said about unions and better pay/ bennies/ training (basically collective bargaining and making the work place more democratic) has been all lies. The south could be wealthier if they weren't stuck with these right to work crap laws!
