Research Medical Center nurses vote to unionize
Registered nurses at Research Medical Center have voted in favor of union representation.
A spokeswoman for the National Nurses Organizing Committee of National Nurses United said the vote was 260 to 92 in favor of the union.
About two-thirds of the eligible nursing staff participated in the election.
This was the second organizing vote in which the union prevailed. The first was in September 2010, but a re-vote was requested by some nurses who were against unionization.

(5,917 posts)how dare anyone tell me that i deserve a weekend. where do they get off demanding that i work ONLY 40 hours a week. i am overworked, under paid and not appreciated and that's how i like it! can you imagine some union thug telling mangement that my patient to nurse ratio is too high. i promise this if some union thug gets me more money in my check, respect on the job or more benefits I WILL FUCKING QUIT MY JOB ON THE SPOT!

(96,793 posts)I am opposed to all unions. Therefore I am opposed to all benefits unions have won through the years: paid vacations, sick leave, seniority rights, weekends, paid holidays, wage increases, pensions, insurance plans, time and a half for overtime, unemployment and job security.
I refuse to accept any benefits that will be won by the Unions and hereby authorize the company to withhold the amount of Union-won benefits from my paycheck each week.
