Interesting study from Nature on drought

It is working towards a predictive model for future droughts (which would allow better planning of scant resources). Figure 5 is the most interesting to me as it shows global drought status from 1982 onwards. It actually looks like the trend for droughts has diminished over the 30 years of the graph by around 5%. (It's hard to be exact because there is no trend line and no matching label on the right side of the graph that can be compared).
