Two Israelis, a father and his son, were killed near a West Bank settlement in a shooting attack.

The incident occurred Friday afternoon near Otniel, which is located 10 miles southwest of Hebron, as unidentified individuals opened fire on a grey Hyundai family van with seven passengers from the same family and another vehicle, Haaretz reported.

The father was in his 40s. His son who died in the attack was 18. A third person, a 16-year-old male, was lightly injured from a bullet that entered his leg. Another passenger, a woman, was lightly injured. The shooters fled the scene. The family was headed to a nearby settlement to celebrate the wedding of a relative.

The Israeli news site rotter.net identified the fatalities as Ya’akov Litman and his son, Netanel.

Hamas, the Palestinian Islamist movement, praised the "heroic" killing of an Israeli man and his son in the southern West Bank on Friday, though it stopped short of claiming credit for the attack.

According to Palestinian sources in Gaza, passersby are handing out candy in the streets to celebrate the attack.

Elsewhere, two Palestinians were shot dead in clashes with Israeli troops, and another died after being wounded in clashes on Thursday, Palestinians said.

The Israeli military say the gunman opened fire on the car carrying the father, son and other members of the family.

Israeli media identified the victims as Yaacov Litman, 40, and 18-year-old Natanel. Another son, aged 16, was wounded.

A security operation is under way around the Palestinian village of Yatta, near Otniel, as Israeli forces search for the attacker.
