Márton Gyöngyösi, foreign policy critic for the far-right Jobbik party, called for a Jewish list, arguing Jews were a security risk.
I know how many people with Hungarian ancestry live in Israel and how many Israeli Jews live in Hungary he said during a debate on the recent fighting in the Gaza Strip.
I think such a conflict makes it timely to tally up people of Jewish ancestry who live here, especially in the Hungarian parliament and the Hungarian government, who, indeed, pose a national security risk to Hungary.

(14,851 posts)Gyöngyösi, for his part, fell back on the classic I was misquoted, though his explanation, if anything, made matters worse: He intended only to challenge the governments one-sided support of Israel in the Gaza Strip conflict and to call the attention to the threat posed by government members and in parliament by Hungarian-Israeli dual citizens.

(50,254 posts)that it's leaders must ALWAYS be given special deference and special exemptions from accountability.
The way to fight things like this "list" is, as always, to fight with all our might against ALL forms of injustice...NOT to use these events to silence legitimate debate on genuine issues of concern. The Palestinians aren't responsible for what that Hungarian idiot and his fascist mob are doing, after all. It's everybody in Europe today and everyone around the world of European Christian descent that are responsible for putting a stop to groups like Jobbik.

(30,109 posts)Cut it out with your criticizing Israeli leaders bullshit.
You can't even cut Meretz/Labor leadership a break for their effort during Camp David / Taba. To you, they're no different than Likud. Same WRT Kadima and the offer they made. Both offers would have ended the conflict, led to peace, no occupation, no settlements, and a Palestinian homeland.
You're the one against those deals. They would have ended the conflict & the Palestinians would have had their own state already, free of occupation and settlements.
What does that say about you? That you're just as extreme as the PLO and Hamas, and want the conflict to continue?

(50,254 posts)My only issue with them was the insistence on continuing to build settlements at the same time. That was a bit self-defeati ng. I never hated them, just wish they weren't doing something that was damaging to the good they were trying to do.
And my issue specifically with Kadima was OCL, not everything they did.
Don't exaggerate about me.
