An IDF delegation departed on a humanitarian mission to the Philippines Wednesday morning to provide aid to the storm-ravaged city of Tacloban, the army said.
The 148-member group, comprising national search-and-rescue unit officials and senior doctors in the IDF medical corps, will be tasked with rapidly setting up a multi-department medical facility to provide medical care for casualties of the disaster in Tacloban.
The facility will have childrens, womens and ambulatory care departments, as well as a general admission department, and will be equipped with approximately 100 tons of humanitarian and medical supplies from Israel.
An IDF assessment team of six medical and logistics experts landed in the Philippines Tuesday to find an optimal location for the field hospital.

(30,109 posts)And even if that's not the case and they went there to do some good, not that Israel's capable of anything good, it's just a feeble attempt to turn the world's attention away from the Palestinians they're currently grinding into pulp.

(6,068 posts)it would probably be better if countries co-ordinated their relief efforts through the main aid agencies rather than they all try and go it alone, and it would probably be better if they concentrated as much on reconstruction as compared with the more dramatic search and rescue side of the equation.
It probably wouldn't hurt to contribute some cash as well.
But good on them anyway. Certainly a less churlish response than was received from China.

(9,688 posts)But overall it hasn't been a good thing, as can be seen by reading that spreadsheet and comparing it to moneys spent on wars of choice.
The whole world seems to be going through a churlish "I've got mine" attitude toward transactions, to the extent that the world's top 0.1% owns all of our production, of our resources, of our means of communication. Those top 0.1% are internationalists who make their residence wherever it's convenient, and who do their business where it's convenient. And comparison of these charts shows that this 0.1% make their money, their business, out of war, not of peace.

Israels propaganda exploitation of typhoon survivors in Philippines is aimed at #bluewashing its crimes against Palestinians.
