Israelis protest Palestinian prisoner release

Dozens of Israelis gathered outside Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's home to protest against the planned release of Palestinian prisoners.

The demonstration on Saturday came as Israel released a list of 26 Palestinian prisoners to be freed next week amid US-sponsored peace talks.

Netanyahu's office said the release of the prisoners was authorised on Saturday evening, and all of those named had served sentences of 19 to 28 years.

The release was to be carried out at least 48 hours after the list was published, in order to give the Israeli High Court time to look into appeals. But since the government already approved the release, the High Court was expected to reject any petitions.

Meir Indor, the chairperson of Almagor, an organisation that operates on behalf of the victims of attacks, warned against the move, noting: "Releasing terrorists will bring more casualty to the area."

One guy was convicted of murdering *15* people and he's going free ?

I guess he's a victim of oppression.

Santa brought me Rocksmith 2014 and so far I can only get 10% on one of my most favourite songs, 'Here Comes Your Man' by the Pixies, while on the second attempt at a Def Leopard song I truly despise, I got a staggering 70%! That's totally unpredictable!

I was originally wishing for the bundle as I've got an acoustic and wanted an electric guitar, but as Santa pointed out, I was being a bit greedy since my existing guitar has a jack and would work just fine with it. Santa also gave me her Xbox 360 so I haven't had to muck around with anything to get it going. It's worth toiling away with yr sound card thought as the game's pretty good....

According to the Pixies, the occupation has ended.....!!!!

ref : http://972mag.com/according-to-the-pixies-the-occupation-has-ended/84447/

I’m so happy that the occupation is over and that peace has come to this troubled land so that now the Pixies feel they can come.

I just wish someone had told me!

Lets hear it for 972 .....

Without them and Ha'aretz we would have nothing but Right/Centralist viewpoints posted on here .

I've been a Pixies fan for years and years, but when they reformed and tried to recapture their glory days, I wasn't interested in seeing them. It's shallow, but most bands who reform are disappointing, and being even more shallow, Frank Black's piled on the weight. That last bit's hypocritical, as Lou Barlow from Sebadoh has as well, but I'm doing the fangrrl thing and going to see the reformed Sebadoh in February (companion on road-trip to Sydney pending). Anyway, based on reviews I've read, the Pixie are punishing Israel by touring there because they apparently truly sucked....

I agree with you totally when it comes to 972mag in particular. I'd also include Ha'aretz, but they've annoyed me with their requirement to register and only get access to ten articles a month. Before that Ha'aretz was my go-to source for anything to do with the conflict

...about the prisoner release oberliner ?

You do realize to whom you should be addressing your grievances , dont you ?

.......

This gesture, which in a rare occurrence in the history of the Israeli government's moves is likely not expected to yield any benefit in the future, is the big mistake made by Netanyahu, Livni, Ya'alon and their friends. They had a choice between a temporary settlement construction freeze and the prisoner release, and they picked the second option. They basically had to choose who and what they are more afraid of: The fury of rightists and settlers in Judea and Samaria, or the bereaved families' cry of despair. The prime minister is experienced, and he knows that the uproar over a prisoner release is very short, and disappears after a day or two. Only the bereaved families are left with their grief.

My personal choice would be that Israel do something about the settlements rather than releasing these murderers, but, clearly, that's not going to happen.

FYI: I think you meant "you're" as in "you are" and "too" rather than "to"
