The three are suspected of being part of the cell that kidnapped and killed 16-year-old Shoafat resident Mohammed Abu Khdeir last week.By Nir Hasson | Jul. 10, 2014 |
Three of the six Jews suspected of being involved in the kidnapping and murder of 16-year-old Shoafat resident Mohammed Abu Khdeir last week will be released from custody today, the Petah Tikva Magistrates Court ruled Wednesday.
The three are not suspected of the murder itself but of being part of the cell that committed it. The police and Shin Bet security service believe the murder was committed by the three main suspects a 30-year-old man from a community near Jerusalem and two minors from the capital.
Sources close to the investigation said the three main suspects confessed to the murder and reconstructed it.
The three, who were arrested on the night between Saturday and Sunday, are likely to see their lawyers today, after a court banned them from doing so at the Shin Bets request.

(68,868 posts)The fifteen year old cousin of the victim was punished more harshly by Israel than these guys are.
Known terrorists, released, because they are Jews and Arabs are not worth protecting , in the Israeli government's view.

(3,864 posts)that the burning alive of this young man might serve as an "Emmitt Till" moment, that it might bring sympathy and make people want to uncover what is really going on in Palestine- outside of mainstream media's propaganda.
but it now looks to be forgotten.

here is a taste :
A controversial Israeli organization that is representing the six men recently arrested in the recent revenge killing of a Palestinian teenager is receiving thousands of dollars in tax-deductible support from Americans. The group, called Honenu (which roughly translates to "pardon" , supports Israelis charged with or convicted of violence against Palestinians.
Honenu's work goes well goes beyond legal aid.
The group says it also provides "spiritual" and "financial" assistance to prisoners and their families. Among those Honenu has helped: Yigal Amir, assassin of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin; an Israeli convicted of murdering seven Palestinians at a bus stop; and an Israeli soldier convicted of manslaughter and obstruction of justice after shooting a British photographer in Gaza.
The tax-exempt donations do not appear to run afoul of U.S. law. But they do put U.S. taxpayers in the position of subsidizing aid to Israelis convicted of politically motivated violence.

Honenu is linked to Yitzhar and HaKol HaYehudi. Its spokesman is Elhanan Gruner (Hebrew), who is also a Yitzhar Yeshiva student and a very active writer (Hebrew) in HaKol HaYehudi. He was shortly detained by the Jewish Division of the ISA, but as usual for this division was freed soon afterwards, and was not indicted.

Are you in Israel? And a member of the left there?
Israeli left is very courageous.
I have many questions to ask if you are.

(3,864 posts)I'm very interested in the Israeli left.
We hardly hear about them, but I know they exist.
I have a friend here whose niece is active in it.
We mostly hear about the zealots who want to wipe out all Palestinians, and of course they exist.
but is the resistance to this, is the left - very small?
do you think generally israeli society has become more right-wing over the last decade or so?
it seems that way to me.
This same friend has a sister in Israel that she used to visit every year (until her health declined.)
She told me that the way most Israelis deal is to not talk about Palestine, and the occupation.
Anything you want to tell me will be well-received, and appreciated, bec. I know little.
The only reference I have is Toward an Open Tomb: The Crisis of Israeli Society
by Michel Warschawski.
As i recall (I read it some years ago) he discusses how Israeli society has turned inward.
thanks,
