Gaza Blasts Rock Palestinian Unity Government

By Tom Rayner, Middle East Reporter, in Jerusalem

The long-term future of the Palestinian unity government is in doubt following a series of explosions in Gaza targeting the homes of Fatah faction leaders.

Senior figures from the Fatah party, led by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, have blamed Hamas for what appeared to be co-ordinated blasts which occurred in the early hours of the morning.

The bombs went off near homes and cars of Fatah members, causing some damage but no injuries.

A stage erected as part of plans to mark the 10th anniversary of the death of late Fatah leader Yasser Arafat was also hit.

In April, Fatah reached an agreement with Hamas to form a unified government, administered and run by technocrats, after seven years of division.
