"We live in a global world; and as a country that is dependent on its foreign trade, if there is an unfriendly attitude towards Israel, not in the United States but in Europe, it will clearly affect the Israeli economy too."
And how will we, the citizens, feel the effect? Well, the hi-tech industry is likely to take the brunt of the blow and that could easily pave the way to a recession.
"It's not something that is going to happen overnight, but it's a process that once started could lead to a very slippery slope," Gilboa says.

(15,438 posts)come out and condemn Netanyahu's belligerence. If they do so loudly enough, they can actually make him back down from his visit and all will be resolved peacefully.
Why haven't they? There's a Dutch saying, "They who keep silent, agrees". It's time for the good people of Israel to stand up and condemn this blatant political maneuver and attempt to embarrass the President of the United States by their Prime Minister and the racist, xenophobic, hateful minority Party in the United States.

(45 posts)that the speech makes Iran sanctions less likely, not more likely.
But you cannot go back in time.
I have read the claim that backing out will damage Boehner.
I think this is slightly true and a slight factor discouraging Netanyahu from back out. But much more so, backing out will damage Netanyahu. It will make him look weak, caving in, and a bungler. This is the primary reason Netanyahu will not back out, even though he considers it against Israel's interest.
