An absolutely horrifying example of what the LGBTQ Community is up against.

Nebraska Woman Offers Graphic, Homophobic Rant During Lincoln's Anti-Discrimination Law Hearings

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/11/nebraska-woman-homophobia-rant-video_n_1509580.html

I saw this and I threw-up. For real. LGBTQ paranoia and hate on the grandest possible scale.

Alaska (and arguably Hawaii - which amended the constitution to permit the legislature to ban same gender marriage) have that honor in 1998, 2 years ahead of Nebraska (and Nevada was in the same year as Nebraska).

but my recollection is that it was the first state where there was some forward movement to generate a backlash.

Sort of the kind of shit to which I would have been subjected had I not moved away from the village in which I was raised. Or words from someone who could likely be mentally ill, isolated, Bible-thumping, just warped.

behind her; even the more conservative looking ones in the back, were like, "Judas was a 'homo?'. WTF?".

She is an excellent spokesperson for the homophobes.

I felt bad laughing at her.

You're right, we are up against this kind of thing. It's quite obvious to any rational person that this woman's words are literally insane, but, unfortunately, a prettied up version of these attitudes is prevalent among many people.

As I'm sure you know, gay people's sex lives are no more unusual or interesting than the sex lives of straight people. When somebody says they're gay, they're not saying anything at all about their sex lives, anymore than a straight person is when they mention that they are married or in a relationship.

The fact is, we're dull. Fabulous but dull.

I've been saying this since I first start visiting political forums in the 90s: people like that have done a lot to advance equal rights. Put her and my gay upstairs neighbor next to each other and tell me who seems scarier.
