Dozens held after Russian Orthodox church activists attack gay rights rallies

Reuters Moscow
guardian.co.uk, Sunday 27 May 2012 16.44 BST

Dozens of people have been detained in Moscow after Russian Orthodox church activists broke up two gay rights protests, throwing water and shouting prayers at demonstrators.

Some Orthodox activists attacked the protesters, throwing punches, grabbing their rainbow flags and trampling on them in front of television cameras.

Skirmishes occurred at the protests outside the city hall and parliament. Neither rally was sanctioned by Moscow authorities.

Almost all of the 30 gay rights protesters were detained, and many fewer of 50 or so Orthodox activists involved.

Even the American branch is extremely homohating. And sadly in Russia, there is nothing to put the brakes on them. Look to see GLBT blood shed at some point in the near future.

We Love Our Gay and Transgendered Friends in Russia. Bless you for the valiant efforts. I wish I could help. I know millions support the cause of freedom and we won't be silent, though we are far away! Never again! People are kept in ignorance for political gain. Gay and Lesbian freedom now! Queer rights are human rights. The right to love is not a question.
