Related: About this forumOn the lighter side, what is one of your favorite sitcom's?
I have been thinking about this today and though I have many that I have really enjoyed, if I had to pick one, I would say "Designing Women".
The show was funny, witty but most of all, it did this while putting out important messages.
Heres a clip from one of my favorite's.
On a sad note though, Dixie Carter is no longer with us.

(11,464 posts)Honeymooners, Get Smart(Mel Brooks created), Maude, All in the Family, , Lucy, Burns and allen, Jack Benny, WKRP, Dennis the Menace & the Beaver. Bob Newhart(both his shows)
and Carol Burnett, though not technically a sitcom, sketch comedy at its funniest
Alot of the recent shows(and by recent I would say the last 15 years, the show starts off funny the first season, but later on becomes forced and almost cartoon like phony humor.
I do have to say the current "Two and 1/2 Men" I find funnier than I ever did when Charlie was on the show.

(206,119 posts)The characters and the writing were extremely well done, and it was actually funny! One that I like enough to even watch in repeats is "Frasier." The writing and the characters were also wonderful and everybody on that show was likable, loved Eddie, LOL. You don't see that often anymore, intelligent writing and clever humor. Most of the newer sitcoms are supposed to be funny because the characters are usually jerks.
And, yes, I know that Kelsey Grammer is a FReeper, but all the characters were great on that show. Plus, I went to Sunday School with little David Pierce, LOL. My mother was his teacher, has run into him in recent years and they've corresponded. He's not only multi talented, but a genuinely nice guy.

(4,243 posts)Frasier is hands down my #1 favorite sitcom. I remember when he was on Cheers and I used to think, "Damn, I wish he would get his own show." Then when he finally did I was ecstatic! The writing is great. Now, if only there would be a Frasier reunion show.

(206,119 posts)My mother (for obvious reasons) was also a huge "Frasier" fan. I once looked at the show's website she sunscribed to and there were numerous scripts submitted by followers of the show and they were awfully good, LOL. We need more intelligent sitcoms like this, but I'm afraid that the quality has gone way downhill. Plus, reality shows are less expensive and seem to have taken over the airwaves. These days, I'm watching more repeats.

(29,503 posts)You can find it on Youtube, IIRC, and it's become rather dated, I suppose, but at the time, it was just gut-bustingly funny. Still is, IMO.
More mainstream/well-known, I still laugh at Mary Tyler Moore and Get Smart, as someone else has already mentioned.
Sentimentally, I always watched B&W I Love Lucy reruns with my family, and she always had us laughing, even when we'd seen that episode 3 or 4 times before.
And Taxi for the 'old New York' ambiance of it. And a hot young Tony Danza, of course.

(29,503 posts)both created by Buck Henry. I honestly did not know that until just now.
He must have been one of those unsung geniuses who made 70's TV so unique, but who never got the credit he deserved.

(55,148 posts)For just pure comedy, "I Love Lucy" can't be beat! I never tire of the episodes no matter how many times I have seen them.
Yes Tony Danza made "Taxi" at least for me (he was my dream boyfriend). I also loved him and Judith Light in "Who's The Boss". Actually I loved the two kids also and you gotta love Mona!

(29,503 posts)Gotta love those old sitcoms. Speaking of which, if you were a fan of Facts of Life, Lisa "Blair" Welchel is a Survivor contestant this season. She's much more likeable than "Blair" was, lol.

(38,187 posts)and found 'Seinfeld' the most unfunny thing I've ever saw ... For the funny parts I sure enjoyed 'Frasier,' despite the Kelsey we all know, of course 'Batman,' 'The Munsters,' 'IT crowd,' 'Becker,' 'Scrubs' and my now favorite, how can't it be, 'The Big Bang Theory.'
Okay, I guess I watched 'some.'
P. S. on edit: Oh my, how can I forget 'Little Britain:'

(14,498 posts)... "Karen Walker" ( Megan Mulhally)--- one of the most inspired comic characters created in the last 25 years, imo.
Generically: The oldies are the best: Lucy, Honeymooners, Andy Griffith ( mostly for Don Knotts). Dick Van Dyke was good. All in the Family, natch. ( The first three seasons.) Seinfeld was consistently funny... in a quirky way.
Does animation count? If so, THE SIMPSONS. Hands down the best.

(55,148 posts)I didn't mention "Will & Grace", I thought it was a given for all of us (or at least I would hope).
"Karen Walker" IMO made the show.
Rhiannon12866
(206,119 posts)But I agree that Karen was the one that really made the show. She was hysterical!

(14,498 posts)I got gradually won over by Sean Hayes.... who is a pheeeeeeeNOMinal talent, and did so much w.that role.
But I mainly watched it for "Karen."
