Sen. Rob Portman comes out for Same Sex Marriage Equality

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/gop-senator-reverses-gay-marriage-stance-son-comes-065826488--politics.html

"A prominent conservative senator said Thursday that he now supports gay marriage.
Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, told reporters from the Columbus Dispatch and other Ohio newspapers that his change of heart on the hot-button issue came two years after his son, Will, told him and his wife that he is gay.
"It allowed me to think of this issue from a new perspective, and that's of a Dad who loves his son a lot and wants him to have the same opportunities that his brother and sister would have—to have a relationship like Jane and I have had for over 26 years," Portman said."

While this is good, it illustrates the well-known lack of empathy displayed by conservatives.

Wow, another shot of reality for those who know how other people should live. The dogmatic, the rabid conservatives do get their comeuppance.

Hmmmmm, about the same that I'm seeing on other threads of this particular topic. Be glad that he changed his mind for whatever reason he changed it. He is now in the position of being able to change other minds.

I'll enjoy watching his own party chew him up and spit him out. Fucking hypocrite - try supporting it BEFORE you find out you have to somehow rationalize your gay son.

I think it is rapidly losing the ability to do much harm to them in certain states.

But I don't think so, yet. And he's still not on board with every OTHER aspect of equality that we deserve. So far it's just marriage. He's even against having the SCOTUS rule that it's a right. He wants it done "democratically".
