Buddy, Jim and I

Buddy was a dog.

I met Jim one night after a date with his ex. The two of us had gone back to the house they had shared. The guy was really loaded and I was looking for an exit. Then Jim walked in. And everything changed. It was like time stopped for a few seconds.

He was tall, dark and handsome. And smart.

We fell in love. He and I crafted a life together.

Buddy stayed with us through out it all. There were some mishaps, though. Buddy usually slept with us on the bed, if he was home. Big dog and there was only so much room. Often at 2 - 3 AM I'd nudge him, Buddy! move over. LOL, Jim and I were on the edge of the bed.

There was also a neighborhood chicken thing. Apparently Buddy was the perp.

He traveled with us. We had an old decommissioned UPS truck. Used it to transport seedlings from San Diego county to finish for sale at home. Bud slept by the gear shift, the warmest spot in the truck.

We'd take a break on the way home. Jim and I would kick back for a bit and Buddy would make totally futile runs at seagulls and shorebirds. LOL.

I not only fell in love with Jim, I fell in love with Buddy.

Jim died at home. Buddy had a chance to nuzzle him one time. As did I. And we both had to move on.

In time, Buddy aged. As his health drastically failed it became clear that I needed to help him out. So I found some morphine, enough to put down a horse they said. Rolled it up in ham and gave the snack to Buddy.

Next morning I went out and there was Buddy - "Man, I am so loaded.". Ah!

Had to do the vet visit. Buddy seemed OK with it all. He looked up at me once and Buddy, Jim and I were...what we were.
