Prop 8 supporters too scared to testify, too bold to whine after the fact

http://pamshouseblend.firedoglake.com/2012/02/08/prop-8-supporters-too-scared-to-testify-too-bold-to-whine-after-the-fact/

In celebration of yesterday’s Appeals Court ruling against Proposition 8, I was going to write something uplifting about the perseverance of the lgbtq community.

But I decided not to.

For one, I am sure that there are so many others who are going to be dwelling on that subject. For another, based upon the reactions coming from the religious right, I feel that another direction is in order, i.e. a missive directed to Maggie Gallagher, the National Organization for Marriage, the Family Research Council, and all of those other folks whining about today’s ruling.

This missive would have included Mitt Romney because of his negative words regarding the ruling. However, seeing that it is Mitt Romney, I figure a week from now will find him supporting the ruling.

Maggie Gallagher sent out the following twitter message:

All I hear is "we don't want to alienate anyone, but we stand for traditional marriage".

I ask "Why do you stand with traditional marriage? What does same sex marriage hurt? Is it wrong to have more people married?"

I never get an answer. Probably because their isn't one. They are irrational bigots.

A text search of yesterday's opinion (found here) for the word "bigot" (or variations such as "bigots," "bigoted," "bigotry," etc.) produces zero results.

A text search for the word "irrational" only produces two results, both of which seem to be in direct reference to the case Romer v. Evans, the opinion of which yesterday's opinion seemed to be heavily based. One of those results was a direct quote from the opinion in that case. The word "irrational" was not used in the original wording from this specific court at all.

Although you and I may agree that those who voted in favor of Prop 8 are irrational bigots, it was not the authors of yesterday's opinion that called them that as Maggie Gallagher claimed. She knows this, but she is purposely twisting the words of the court for no other purpose but to inflame others who would love nothing more than to continue harming and discriminating against people like myself. She also likely made this false claim as yet another ploy to get more donations out of NOM's supporters.

Not only was Gallagher factually incorrect in her tweet, but her motivations for posting it were wrong as well.

She didn't "get one right" at all, IMHO.

Sorry for the confusion.

However, I do also realize that the propaganda leading up to the vote was like a tsunami. Many were simply overwhelmed.

those 7 million "traditional marriage" supporters of Prop h8 are divorced, or maybe twice divorced, like Newt.

You'd think that "traditional marriage" folks would have to be against divorce. But NO!!!! They all seem to think nothing of multiple marriages in one lifetime, as long as all of them are heterosexual.
