intent on a message board. Especially on topics some feel "protective" of, I think a knee-jerk reaction/judgment is more likely (I know I respond that way, anyway).

And as long as you're a Gold Star Lesbian (Silver Star might be iffy ), I think everyone will understand and see your real nature and goodness.

As for Bobbolink, I know when I was a practicing addict part of the reason I was afraid to clean up was that it had become such a part of my self-identity. A friend of mine who suffered from bulimia said she felt the same. Maybe Bobbolink was so vested in being poor, she just couldn't see herself enjoying any kind of relief. Maybe the possibility scared her. The effort you made is truly impressive - I hope you realize how special you are.

There was walking that fine line between feeling pity for her and truly understanding she needed a hand.

Yay! You are off the drugs! However.....most of us have a crutch to get through life's challenges. Mine is a nip of Bombay gin and tonic now and again.

I have over 10,000 posts on DU and I just had my first post hidden. At least I think it is the first. I can't recall having it happen before on old DU.

The thread I had responded to had a picture of Jan Brewer wagging her finger at President Obama. The OP asked folks to "caption" the image. The obvious intent was to get folks to make some sort of joke about the image.

Obama is clearly saying something to Brewer in the picture ... so I said the caption was "B***h Please!" ... because Obama walked away from her as she continued to talk at him (not to him, at him).

And some here took offense to the word B***h. Oh well.

George Carlin used to talk about words and how the same word could be used in many contexts and with many intended meanings in different phrases. And the word was less important than the intent.

And so he would compare things like ...

F**K YOU
Go F**K yourself
Hey, this is great F**king Cheese cake!!!

I suspect that if my post had suggest that the caption be "Go F**K yourself" ... a jury would not have hidden it.

I also wondered what would have been the response if I had used a caption like "N****R Please!", would that have been hidden? Who knows.

My larger point was that the image was a very extreme example of the GOP's hate for Obama ... and a caption (I thought) would reflect that. So I went with "extreme language" to make that point.

Regardless ... so a few folks on DU got upset because you used a couple words they don't like. Don't take it personally.

Here is my sense .... if that doesn't happen from time to time, maybe you aren't pushing the envelope enough. Personally, I'm thinking of becoming more outrageous. The new rules allow you to have up to 5 hidden threads in 90 days before they show up in your public profile.

Which means I have 4 more freebies in the next 89 days!!!!

the word bitch would be in any way acceptable to me -- one is this one, talking ABOUT the word, and the other is its original denotation: female dog.

And I don't care if it's got stars sweetening it up as if to euphemize it or not.

Are the jurors made up of subscribers to this group or are they anyone?

I hate the jury system.

I am going to go ahead and lock it.

I don't mean to be a hardass, I do realize it wasn't all about the jury decision. Also, discussing the personal issues of another DUer in the manner done so here seems also not to meet this group's SOP.

I did consider leaving it open due to the fact that you included your introduction... however on balance, I will have to go with the alert and lock it.

Thanks for your understanding.
