New Netflix rating system

I was pissed when they did away with the 5 star rating system. It produced a more accurate algorythm for your taste in films. They replaced it with the stupid thumbs up or thumbs down. Now they're fine tuning it by adding a double thumbs up. Sheesh. Next they'll bring back the 5 star ratings. Just watch!

I found the rating system useless. All the five star ratings were just lame Hallmark type plots. Pobeka Apr 2022 #5

It will give you IMDB and a "Reelgood" score which takes popularity into account (since a lot of IMDB high rated movies are typically not so mainstream). Also you can do your search by categories (warning it is not perfect) and year released. You can also do filtering by score and year released.

But with a better Netflix rating system, it's nice to see how I'd rate a movie that they stream. I used to trust their recs.

That's how it was 4 or 5 years ago for us anyway.

Now we just read the short description, look at the actors, give it a try if it passes the that first filter.

We can generally see if we'll like it in about 10 minutes.

1. The way I choose is to watch the trailer on YouTube.
2. If I like the trailer, I'll probably like the movie.
3. Then I go to IMDb to find out where it's streaming.
4. Then I go watch it.

I pretty much ignore all the suggestions. And when a suggestion does look interesting... see step 1 above.

On Edit: I often spend an hour or so each week watching trailers on YouTube and collecting a list of movies to watch and where they are streaming. The I have a whole week's worth to choose from. I find some real gems that way that I might not have found otherwise, like CODA (which I loved) and Hawkeye (the series) which I got a real kick out of.
