Netflix Documentary on Jimmy Saville.

So many times in this documentary brought tfg to mind. His crimes of child molestation and sexual assaults of children also has this odd connection to the Catholic Church.

I watched because I lived in London for 3 years and could not understand the obvious devotion to this man. Or observe any talent, other than "cheek". They do tend to go all out with their sex scandals.

But his reveling in getting away with his atrocities while being praised by the entire country, is confounding. Despite him clearly being an odd duck, he gets a pass. It took brave women to finally - after his death - see him exposed as a criminal. Margaret Thatcher was alive to see it, but as she suffered from Dementia it's doubtful she understood that she had a sexual predator Knighted.

Between Thatcher being his mentor and access to the best lawyer for pedophiles, he died with everything hidden. Only through death can you lose a knighthood.

3. I tried watching it, but couldn't get into it.

It is so slow and seems to be mostly accolades for Jimmy Saville.

I switched to Tinder Swindler and watched that instead.

5. I know about him.

I just really wanted to get to his crimes. This should have been coming up in the second half of the first episode.

Even though I watched the first half of the first episode, I still can't figure out why this quirky guy became so popular. It's the pacing and production of the thing. (It's putting me to sleep...and yet this guy had some magnetism, but even that doesn't come across)

It's almost impossible to botch up a documentary about this monster, but they did

Pacing ruined it badly


Spends 2 hours going on about Savile and the accolades, the programs he made, the people he hung out with and on and on and on. Honestly we all know he was an icon and didn't need to be reminded of it for 2 slow long hours.

The second half is better but rushed and for me it's more where the focus should have been. For me it was an important documentary to see how the British public, Government, Police were fooled for so long and let him get away with his disgusting sexual assaults just because he was famous. He got away with it till he died and never paid for his crimes. Really sad because you can see from some of the victim's accounts that they still live with this monsters crimes to this day.

Unfortunately the documentary for me was just all over the place and the pacing was the worst I have seen from Netflix.

I watched 3 hours of this and still don't really know what happened.

In a nutshell, the most dramatic thing about this documentary is its title.

6. In some ways it's a documentary about the country.

How he was able to manipulate Margaret Thatcher shows the danger of an ideology blinding one to the importance of moderation and vetting.

I think his producer was treated with kid gloves, whereas he should have been far more scrutinized. The phenomenon of the length and breadth of Saville and this documentary line up perfectly. In so many ways it's about all manipulative public figures - like tfg.
