Herman Wouk's "Winds of War" has ARRIVED on Netflix!

I can't recommend this series more highly. But, one has to realize that it's about WWII...and many DU'ers can't go tht far back.. BUT..it has incredible War Footage that you won't see in Context to the Time anywhere else...and if you get into it..(if you can get past the Military/Female ROLE Gender Tipes of Times Past and look on it as a History Lesson...it's an incredible and accurate (as much as possible) account of American Interaction in WWII.

I wonder if anyone tries it what they will think of it? Will it be Dated...or Historical...or just "not what I'm interested in."

Try to stay with it for a bit. It's not Downton Abby..BUT...it's a piece of our American History. My FIL (an incredible man..) really went through all of this and his letters from WWII as Naval Captain in Africa/Europe/Tripoli/ Saudi Arabia...detailed his experiences about the nuances of culture vs. American Troops and what it was like there, at that time during WWII.

I hope some will give this a try if they love history and Herman Wouk and to see the actual footage/video of "on the ground action" and to get caught up in the lives of these people.

Anyway...OTT on this one...but, was so thrilled to see it. We bought it years ago for $150.00 online. Now I can get it for part of our $22.00 per month NETFLIX subscription. HOW TIMES CHANGE.

Downton Abbey? Winds of War/War and Remembrance runs circles around Downton (esp the seasons beyond season 1 - for whatever reason, they seem to think viewers can't hold their attention in any scene longer than 10 seconds).

it might not make sense to those who are way past WWII...having no Parents who Served...but, it's such an incredible History Lesson...I just couldn't restrain myself when I saw it show up on Netflix!

Whatever...I hope my OTT Post didn't disappoint anyone...but DAMN...that Series is Incredible for Storyline/Real War Footage and Diplomatic Efforts and Intrigue...expecially once they get into Nazi Germany and the incredibly heart rending personal, emotional nuance and pathos that is portrayed there.

So, glad to hear from someone else who watched it and thought it worth a view!
